Do you love colour, flowers, and trying out new techniques? Join us for a relaxing morning of creativity onboard a fabulous old First Class Train Carriage at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Wirksworth. This workshop is in partnership with Wild Roots, a Community Interest Company (CIC).
Discover the fascinating art of using alcohol based ink pens as I guide you through my vibrant technique, helping you create your own stunning Spring Blossom painting. We'll use alcohol ink-based brush pens with splashes of neat alcohol on Yupo paper - you’ll get to explore a palette of colours and immerse yourself in this captivating and mindful process.
Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, this workshop is perfect for all skill levels. Unwind and enjoy yourself in a friendly and supportive environment. We provide all the materials you need, along with light refreshments, which are all included in the price. And what a treat this exciting venue is! If you love old stations and trains you can play out your “Railway Children”fantasies and sit drawing and drinking tea in a lovely old First Class Carriage. You must get a selfie before leaving with your head out of the train door looking down the curving train too - very “Brief Encounter”! As this is situated in in the gorgeous little town Wirksworth there are lots of interesting shops and cosy cafes and pubs around to make a day of it.
There is a little walk across the platform and rail tracks and a fairly high step up onto the train so please bear that in mind if you have access difficulties. The toilets are really nice and just across the platform from where we’ll be. The station has its own car park so you'll have no trouble parking.

The serious bit just so you know…
This workshop is designed for adults only and places are limited.
Please be aware that you will be using 91% isopropyl alcohol at points during the session - you will drip it sparingly onto your paper, as well as spraying a fine mist of it over your work. Sometimes people are aware of the smell (I’m immune now!) but I’ll try to provide an air flow if this becomes difficult for anyone. You will also be blowing through a straw, so please be aware of this if you are prone to feeling breathless or lightheaded. Generally attendees are completely fine with all this, but I prefer you to know in advance in case you think it may be problematic for you.
Although generally this technique is not messy, the inks may stain if they get on your clothing. It’s not harmful at all if any ink or alcohol get onto your hands - I have had plenty of experience with this!
