Discover this 400 years old heritage craft and let your creativity go wild. In this relaxing 3 hour workshop you'll learn to make a cartwheel Dorset button and apply it to a project of your choice; bookmark, brooch, pocket hug, keyring or scissors keep. Held onboard the craft carriage at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Wirksworth you'll be able to relax and unwind and enjoy this traditional craft with expert tuition from Sandrine from 'The Frog in the Craft'. All materials and refreshments are provided.
Held onboard the craft carriage at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Wirksworth, this 3-hour workshop is a great opportunity to not only learn a 17th Century technique for making your own buttons - which is the main focus of the workshop - but also, more importantly, it is a brilliant way to have some "me" time, relax, socialise with new people, have a good natter and no doubt a good laugh also. Three hours when you can leave the stresses from the office at the door and give your stress filters a good refresh. Tea / coffee and cake included!
Sandrine will introduce you to this 400-year-old heritage craft, which is the Dorset button with the most well-known type: the cartwheel. You will be provided with everything you need on the day, and you will be shown the techniques with a few extra tips along the way. But that is not all! This is a project-based workshop, but it will be up to you to decide on what you want to make, with a few options available on the day, such as a pocket hug, a bookmark, a scissor keep, a brooch, etc... No pressure, just let your creativity decide.
The workshop is accessible to all abilities - very beginner-friendly, especially as I will be guiding you through the whole process. By the end of it, you will even be ready to take on the next Dorset button challenge, such as the posy / tree or beaded button.
It will be held in a small group setting of no more than 12 people.
I also offer an optional WhatsApp support group with all my workshops, so that I can relay any important info easily, but also so that we can get to know each other before the day, get questions answered quickly and easily, and after the workshop has happened, you can share more of your creations if you like or ask for extra guidance or a refresher if needs be. Please note that this is a private (hidden) group within The Frog in the Craft's Community group, and joining is totally optional.
